Hey all,
I picked up a K&N filter for my bike. I took out the one no problem. Instructions that came with the K&N said to fit the gasket in the groove and cut it to fit. Then put a thin film of sealer over the gasket. After I did that, I noticed my old air filter didn't have a gasket. Putting the gasket in the K&N makes it not fit properly. So do I just take it off? Do I need to put sealant in the grove anyways? Thanks |

Hi there,
Are you on a Curvy or Pointy? On my Pointy you had to remove the existing rubber seal (this is recessed in the airbox housing so maybe not obvious on first glances) and fit the K&N one and then just re-fit the cover - didn't mention using sealant - guess you don't need. The Curvy's have a different shaped airbox/filter so may be different - I'm sure someone will be along to advise on the Curvy fitting if that's what you have. |

I have a 2001 SV650S, so yes, curvy model. The stock one doesn't have a gasket in the groove, so i'm assuming I don't need to use the one that came with the K&N filter either. The stock filter doesn't look like any sealer was used either.
Just hoping someone here can confirm. I guess I could put the sealer in the groove and put it back on. |

Been thinking about one of these too.
Do they really make much difference? I know the lifetime is great and quality is brill but do you really notice any performance change? Stone, I realize you haven't tried yours yet but if anyone else has I would love to know. |

The only reason I bought a K&N is because I had a Yoshimira 2n1 pipe put on and they recommended using an after market air filter. Mine was due to be replaced anyways.
The biggest difference I have noticed with my bike is that after the new pipe was put on and rejetted, that 1st gear is really smooth. Before I used to have to feather the clutch a fair bit. |
