Default Insurance is a funny thing!

I have been doing some dummy qoutes to get an idea as to what sort of price I will be paying for insurance when its up for renewal.

Been trying all the cheap places, thebikeinsurer, expressinsurance, bennets and the usual comparison websites.

Cheapest I have found so far is £580

Now bearing in mind I paid under £500 this year I find that very very odd indeed.

Particularly as I have reached the supposed milestone of 25 years of oldness and got another years NCD under my belt.

So very very annoying......the only thing I can put this down to is my risk area going up significantly......My neighbour 3 doors down had his Ducati 'stolen' out of his garage......I suppose if this has gone on a database it will have a negative effect.

If that is the case it makes it even more bloody annoying as my neighbour is struggling to sell his house and has money problems, so it was rather convienient that his bike went missing without any damage or noise or anyone even noticing.......he probably stripped it for parts and reported it stolen for double money and I'm the one that has to pay more.

RANT OVER

I was pleasantly surprised the other day after the Rutland rideout - saw a 2001 Blade and quite liked the look of it so did a quick comparison site quote online - £330 FC! I know I am old (31) but thats not much more than I am paying for the Zed! Looks like a new bike may be on the cards in the Spring

I am lucky to live in a low crime area and the bike is locked in a brick garage though.

Well I have just renewed and to be honest A quote did me the best deal despite others phoning me back and offering to reduce and failing miserably.

£209 for gsxr 6 FC, £250 X/S, full recovery, legal etc, ride other peoples bikes 3rd party and able to add up to 3 other bikes without charge to my policy. Oh that is with 2 years ncd, sp30 and a fault claim

A Qoute.....between £760 and £1080

Cant quite understand it myself....I guess I will have to ring around nearer the time.

Will be amusing to recieve my renewal letter, as that will be loads more than I'm currently no doubt.

When is your insurance actually up for renewal? I find they can bear little relation to what you'll really get as the time of year affects what price you'll get*. And also, you don't get a chance to haggle them down with a dummy quote!

*My renewal is April, which brokers (Express or MCE, can't remember which) have told me is when you start to get better deals, as summer bikers come out and insure their bikes, I guess they offer better deals to try and capture a larger portion of the market, and don't bother in winter. So when I've got quotes during the winter they haven't been as good.

Not sure when mine is due...I know its just after christmas...so though I would try and figure out how much I need to get together lol

I was doing dummy qoute for a person who will be in my basic scenario.

Tempting to go Third Party Fire & Theft as I plan to fix the bike myself with crap/ebay fairings and have it as a track bike only when I drop it.

I found age only made a difference when I hit 30..... that was the one and only time for both bike & car that insurance renewals went down not up when nothing else had changed.

I have always been told 25 made a big difference for car and bike insurance.......loads of people have said it in the past, I guess nothing is cheap anymore and I will have to stump up ha ha

I don't remember a major difference at 25, actually. Maybe a little better, but not huge! Luckily, I'm not 30 yet

My top tip from renewing this year was to buy insurance at the shows. In my case it was with MCE at the Excel in London - They said they get good discounts from their suppliers to make it worth their while to have a stand.
