Default Rear brake dragging.

Not sure if this is a common issue with the SV but I have a dragging rear brake and it has been like this from when I bought the bike brand new! It seems a bit random really as sometimes after a ride the rear disc is just slightly warm whereas other times it's very hot (the same journey - comute to and from work) - The wheel is always free moving though but you can here the brake dragging when you spin the wheel.

I had a new tyre a short while ago and when I tried to refit the rear wheel the disc must have caught one of the rear pads and the brake lining just came away from the pad. I spoke to my tyre fitter and he said that this was quite common as the brake can drag causing the pad to get (and stay) hot and the lining to come away - anyway, luckily he had a new set of pads so I wasn't stranded.

When I fitted the new pads I managed to push the piston back into the caliper with one hand, no problem so the piston and seals are fine and not sticking or anything but, having fitted the new pads I get exactly the same problem - sometimes it's a bit warm other times its very hot so it must be dragging...

Is this just a trait of this particular caliper/brake setup or does anyone know if there is a way to stop the brake dragging?

(The bike is an SV650s K7 and the rear caliper is a Nissin single piston setup)

Thanks

Dave

If the fluids been topped up, then you've pushed pistons back the reservoir will be overfull

If you can spin the wheel on the stand then the brake isnt really dragging. You will hear the pads touching the disc but that is normal as long as they are not actually stopping the wheel. You are not inadvertantly resting your foot on the pedal when riding are you? That would account for brake dragging and the disc getting hot from time to time?????

I have exactly the same problem with my K3. Rear disc warms up after a ride even without applying brake. I think it started to occur after I replaced rear pads with carblorraine RX. Never did it before with oem pads (nor audible dragging nor warming up). At same time I also overhauled caliper & changed brakefluid. First I thought the oil/dust rings didn't retract pistons properly anymore so I changed them (oem ones still looked ok at caliper overhaul time). No result.
Now I'm thinking of opening up master cylinder. Maybe a hole blocked or sth?

They are not brilliant this is true but they do work and I use mine all the time to assist me in cornering. It can be a very useful too indeed.
