Yes, you need to service them regular like! If you've never done it in two years....well I'm not surprised they're seized

Yes servicing the brakes once in a while is usually a good idea

They not like car calipers, older bike brakes need a bit of TLC to keep them working, corrosion gets behind the seals and squeezes them onto the pistons which locks them in place. Outdoor storage, winter salt and infrequent use don't help matters.

Thats your answer then hun. They need to be used or the pistons will get stuck. I can guarantee that one of my SVs thats been sat in the shed for three months will be a tad hard to shift because of the brakes seizing a little, and thats after they get serviced and rebuilt regular. I learnt my lesson last year when I used to have to hit the damn things with a rubber mallet to free them up*
Theres rubber seals in there and crap gets stuck in them...a bit more technical than that, but I've had the run down and shown how to do em by YC. Also your brake fluid may need replacing too. *something which I don't recommend!

2k miles in 2 years I would say whole thing needs at least a look over.
