Default datatool and battery charging

Hi guys,

I have a datatool system 3 fitted, and i want to give the battery a charge, to make sure she is fully juiced for this crappy weather. Thing is i havent done the pin overide thingy on the system 3, and i dont have an optimate yet, so it would be a case of charging using a normal charger, but being a novice i wanted to ask, can you unclip the battery and charge it, or will this cause the alarm to go off. Also, what will happen when i reconect the battery, will this also set off the alarm, or will it be ok?
Im not sure if you have to set up the overide before uncliping the battery. If i dont have the pin overide set up will this cause me grief

cheers!! oh, and a merry Christmas to you all

To take the battery off the bike you will need to put the alarm in to Service Mode which is very annoying as the bike will beep every 10s or so. Just leave it on the bike and charge it up.

Get the pin override done.

ps. Note that the newer System 4 has a complete shutdown mode, but it leaves the bike imobilised.
Also with S4, make sure you have a Pin set as there is no way to get inside the unit to disconnect the internal battery unlike the S3 which allows you to reprogram remotes even if you have forgot the pin.

When I had a S3 I used to charge my battery with it still in the bike.

Best thing I ever did was not to have a Datatool fitted to my new bike. They're a complete PIA.

Not everyone is lucky to live in the middle of nowhere and insurance dont care if you have one or not. Ive had a couple S3 and never had issues with them.

I accept what you say. On rereading, I did sound rather dismissive. Sorry.

From memory shakie, no there isn't. The pin thingy isn't very difficult to do, just a bit fiddly. Be sure you don't forget the pin

From what i remember, IF you dont have a pin setup and the remotes stop working then you have to open the alarm and do a full reset of the unit, i dont have the detaiks on how to do it though with me.

had the same problem. ended up buying a data tool battery charger. the alarm recognises tampering with the battery as a threat and sounds off. if you use a data tool charger the two recognise one another and will work together, awwwgh.

If you have to set the pin, keep to low numbers as you will get fed up preety quick of using it otherwise!

utter tosh, its as good at detecting battery tapering as i am at winning motogp and it dont care much about which charger you use, ive never had any issues using my halfords charger on my bikes while alarm was on bike

its just another selling scam
