Default FAO Anna

Anna, give your other half a big sloppy kiss for me. He appears to of solved a problem he didn't even know I had!

Filipe, I knew the thread title would attract you here! Well, my review of it...

Installation: Pretty easy. I just dumped it on my host (I already had PHP setup), DB setup you already know about (and I can advise further if you don't have something setup to adapt). Once the files were in place, it was a matter of a browser to the directory then it walks you through the config.

The configuration wizard basically checks the system out first to identify if you have the ability to run the scripts, then there's a screen to enter DB information, then it tells you the randomly generated admin password. When you login on the admin account, you'll be informed that you should remove the install directory. Easy enough.

All in all, from getting it uploaded to being productive has probably taken me about an hour. 10 minutes of that was setup (it defaults to $ and Australian timezone BTW), the rest was learning my way around the UI. It's a little strange in places (like you have to go into Projects before you can create Tasks, and once there, it asks you which project the task relates to...).

Pros: Ease of install, simple UI (if confusing menus), nice & clean HTML, ticketing system tied in with Tasks/Events/Calendar & Gnatt charting. Translations possible so you can change wording to whatever you want, even Portugese! Module system so custom modules can be made/downloaded, the various functions will send emails out without having a mail server (subject to php mail functions being enabled). Reports can be exported to PDF.

Cons: Confusing menu's, the ticketing system isn't as indepth as some other systems like Mambo, some functionality doesn't work 'out of the box' (mainly Files, doesn't work on a standard MySQL5.0 setup due to temporary tables requirement - documented in the forums for a workaround though).

For others of the .Org that have no clue what I'm going on about, geeky stuff. Still reading? dotProject - a freeware Project Management suite.

I've been messing about with it most of the evening. It doesn't quite do everything I want (I want a more indepth ticketing system), and the tasks could do with the implimentation tidying up a little, but overall, it's better than using a ticketing system to produce Gnatts.

But I'm the kind of person that can log a ticket for me to write a new module so that the system behaves the way I want it to. Then push this back to the community at large.

Filipe, before you think about it, read that last paragraph closely. I can log a ticket, no timescale for modules to be written.

I found that running the scripts through a dxl server with multple proxies being held usually restored the system to where you want it. If not, try turning it off and back on again.

Thanks Baph, I'll keep that in mind (if there's any space left for it, that is...).
