Default I.A.M - How many younger riders consider advanced riding?

Hi peeps,
As the title says I was wondering what the general thoughts were of joining local advanced motorcycling clubs?
I am aiming this at people specifically under 40 but any input will be appreciated. The reason I ask is that having spoken to a number of southern clubs not only are they lacking in members but the majority of members seem to be 40+ in years.

So what would make you consider joining and what would make you interested in joining??

Regards

Fraser

I'm a member of the cars one, I needed it but was actually interested in the bike one
but sheffield council were paying so I thought I could apply the car thing to bikes.

i haven't officially joined but i do ride a lot with an IAM instructor, very nice chap who can hustle a pan when he wants to, i haven't considered joining IAM or similar but would definitely do a BikeSafe course to inprove my road perception and/or one of the track based instruction courses that focus more on bike control than roadcraft

It ****es me off the council in sheffield don't do any motorcycle funding for stuff. I've just forked out for a bikesafe course. Hope they save money on insurance premiums, I'm currently £4k down on premiums...money I could be putting into the economy!

Not really... My dad is very experienced and has told me a lot of things, I think most others come through experience... IAM's dont really interest me as they generally seem to have this elitist attitude which I dispise... Maybe I met the wrong people?

nah it's just a group of bikers going out for a ride and giving each other tips.
In the car one it's just me and a bloke going for a drive and he tells me what I'm doing wrong. Only pain in the arses are the meets cause I have no interest in cars or old men.

Wasted a night trying to find their stupid meet had to turn round and come home in the end. Work on bike cancelled I was v angry.

At 46 I am too young to even consider the IAM, as I don't smell of wee or have a BMW with panniers full of Werther's Originals.

Every IAM member I know crashes more than those who aren't in it anyway, so I'm not tempting fate by joining or doing their 'training'

But a one man crusade?
I admire your style, Sir
