Default Split Link in Chain

Cleaning the DRZ chain today (decided to get all the old chain wax off) I noticed it had a split link to complete the chain after it has been changed. This must have been done by the previous owner.

My question is, would a split link chain be OK on a small light bike with relatively low power? Will be used for 'white roads' - small lanes around here, not green laning or off-roading.

Yeah it'll be fine, most are supplied like that anyway for ease of change, you can get soft rivet ones if it bothers you though.

Cheers Mark.

Or alternatively no it won't - it could take your legs off just rolling it out of the garage - at least that was the opinion of some people when I asked . But for peace of mind get a proper rivet link. As you dont know the history whether it has been on and off the bike a few times probably better to get it replaced.

Cheers Mark. I thought it probably would be, but wanted confirmation from someone with more experience.

Sure, but you have not had a full power bike yet. No offence intended by that, just I know split links are not strong enough for big bikes making more power. I would not have a split link on an SV for instance.

It was because I was unaware of what sort of power and weight the split links became 'dodgy' that I asked the question.
