Only reason NOT to get one is if you think it is just a faster SV650. Totally different bike (apart from overall look). Swapping mine after 5 years for a new ST in 30 minutes!
At first I missed the 650, however once I put a pair of LOUD cans on (Remus, with 60mm outlets, no baffles ![]() The SV1000 is a stonking (budget) big twin - DO IT ![]()

Only downside, same size tank as the 650 and a bit more thirsty, but the grin factor will win you over.

Saw one on bike trader yesterday, 1800 pound for a 2008 k7 with about 1600mls on the clock. Could've been a miss print though.

I think Kwak prefered the SV650 when he got his 1000, he was always considering getting another 650 I think anyway..............I dont think the 1000 is anywhere near as throwable and fun.

The SV1000 is a great and hugely underrated bike, in some ways this is good as they now go for reasonable prices, but do have in mind it isn't a big fast SV650, it's a completely different bike that shares only styling with the 650 and very few parts. It has a better engine, better brakes, quality suspension, and despite what some will tell you, isn't significantly thirstier than the 650. I've run both and I know this for a fact.

If you want to do any long distance touring this is a fantastic bike to do it on a real mile muncher, and the acceleration is awesome it looks great and the sound is monster even with standard cans. The only negative is its not so easy to throw round the corners as already stated but hey its not bad round the corners either the bike will far exceed my skill level !!!

I only recently got an SV650, and was planning to hang up my commuting boots in a few years time, buying one last bike to take me into my twilight years. I wasn't sure exactly what bike it would be tbh, but I'm now seriously considering an SV thou for the job, if I can't save up enough for an RSV anyway!

Oi everyone! I said reasons NOT to think about an svThou! Lol, as above, I'm not a mega enthusiastic rider, never been bothered about getting my knee down, not particularly bothered about laptimes & trackdays... But I do like confidence & good roadcraft, comfort, long distance capability & a good bit of thump from the fun stick now & again. They're so cheap & plentiful, and love the look of pointys.
Thanks alot you gits. ![]() Oh and sid squid, what's the suspension & brakes like? Still worthy of sinterred pads & uprated springs from maxton etc? Whats the shock like? If all said items are better on the thou, I'm guessing a gsxr front end swap wouldn't be as effective as it is on the 650 (I.e. Amazing updated brakes & forks)
