Default Dead bike... 2007 SV650S

Just looking for some advice and help please!

Went out to my bike the other day to start it up and the display is completely dead like the battery is completely flat.

Been doing a little searching on here and figure it may be more likely the main fuse blown or a loose connection on the battery.

However....how do I remove the seat to get to the battery?! I have had a look around but cant figure it out, maybe i'm being blind?!

Thanks

Undo the two allen key bolts on the infill panels directly under the seat, then pop the panels off.

That'll expose the seat bolts, undo those and then lift the seat off and you should see the battery, I cant remember if theres a little plastic tray over the battery or not, there might be so you'll need to lift it off.

Its really easy to do.

Thanks J2UK, it was easy...

Now the hard part. I have checked the main 20amp fuse, thats fine and also swapped it for the spare but no joy.

Checked connections to battery and to the 20amp fuse holder - all tight

Checked fuses located under the rear seat - all fine

Any ideas?! Maybe will help if I give some background on the bike?

I bought it about 4 weeks ago, it is a K6 registered 2007 (07 bike), only had 2.5k miles on it when I bought it. I have been out about 3 or 4 times and put about 300 miles on it. It stays outside and because I am lazy I didnt put the cover on it so it got pi$$ed on for a few days. A week after last starting it I went out to give it a start up and it was completely dead, nothing even flickered on the dash.

It has hot grips on but they dont work, something to do with the thermostat/controller, however this was left in the off position (incase that drained the battery)

I have a new battery on order anyway just in case, but could the battery have drained itself completely over a few days? I have a multi-meter but unsure on how to check the charge in the battery.

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Thanks
Rick

Set your meter to read DC volts and put the red probe on the +ve and the black probe on the -ve then tell us what the reading is. It should be greater than 12 or something is wrong.

should be more like 13 volts. Any lower than 12.5v suspect something wrong

Ok, using the multi-meter getting 5.05v...

Me thinks the battery is dead!

I have a battery on order from Suzuki Chesham, or should I buy a battery charger? I have one for cars upto 1800cc but would that knacker the bike battery completely?

Thanks again for your help.

Its ok to do.
I did mine off a 1.4 206 when i left my hot grips on by accident, let it start and then wak off a lead quickly (couple of seconds wont kill it) otherwise youll have double the voltage going through which will do no good.
