Default Road Furniture

Anyone have any experience.
I hit an Armco barrier and whilst there isn't any impact damage there is some fire damage. Just wondering if anyone has done something where they then got charged for replacement of road furniture.

Yep, wrote my car off into a roundabout signpost pole. As the third party were not present to defend/offend my innocence no charges were sent. Normally, it's up to your insurers to deal with.

Kind of want to not claim on the insurance though. Really need the No Claims.

Take it plod attended? They normally report it and send you a letter, I would wait and see if they do and if it can be settled outside of insurers.

You are liable for the damage to the barrier (and the melted road???)so if they know who did it you could well get a big bill.Best to inform your insurance that you have had a crash.

+1

You are liable for any road furniture you damage, if I where you I would contact highways and see how much the damage is and see if you can settle by cheque if it isn't too much. They will add labour costs on as well.

If it is too expensive the insurance may be the way you have to go

Well a positive note from me, when I crashed in 07 The attending officer said I had demolished a few marker posts and to expect a bill from highways as traffic lights would be needed to re-instate. I have not heard anything about this from the council.

Yup tis true!
Highways agencey long ago decided that its not fair that they should pay for the damage as its not thier fault. It got classed as vandalism and so the culprit gets the bill, fortunatly some boffin found a loop hole where because the damage was part of the accident then it can be claimed for as part of the damages.

Armco's are relativly cheap, but the installation and inspection is expensive plus if you damaged the actual highway then they'd need to plane off a section of the surface course and re-instate a new one. I think that end of snake pass is Calderdale Council, you could always give them a bell to see what they make of it all.

May be worth a note, if your damage to the barrier is not the only damage then you could argue that it was already damaged so your not going to pay the whole amount.
