As a newbie to biking with little mechanical knpowledge I will much appricate if you could help me answering the folliwng questions:
- will K6 gixer 600 shock fit to K8 sv650s?
- is the K6 gixer 600 the best replecment for my SV if Im using it for commuting during the week and for weekend ride-outs, occasionly with knee-down pratice
- will the sv K8 battery fit after trimming the battery box to allow gixer shock to be installed?
Thanks for help.

hiya mate,

I had an sk5 which me and Yorkie Chris fitted a k5 gsxr 1000 shock to. The base of the battery box needed cutting to allow the top of the gsxr shock to fit in properly. Once the battery box had been cut (YC did a very tidy job considering his stance on function over form). Once the battery box was cut, we folded a sheet of bubble wrap to act as a seat for the battery... (helps protect against water/dust/carp getting in there and allows the battery to move slightly)...

One thing I'd recommend doing is the front springs if you've not done them already. While I was researching it transpired that having a quality shock and the standard (relatively poor) springs, the handling & ride quality would be rrrubbish..

Uprating the springs (I got maxton springs for about £77) and leaving the shock would give a very good improvement (more feel & feedback, more confidence when cornering etc). If you do both the springs and shock swap, the bike feels fantastic afterwards.

I'm not that technically minded but I hope some of this helps & someone with more knowledge will be along shortly to give better advice

welcome to the mad house by the way

K8 shock leaking?

Do suzuki not offer 2 year warranty now? There's no way that's wear & tear!

Can i use the thread to ask another question....
Is there a possibility to swap the all "SV" swingarm with "GSXR" one?
In "all" i mean really all - swingarm, wheel, brake caliper, shock absorber, sprocket, mud-guard, chain-guard, and so on.... complete swingam from "GSXR"?
And, of course, wich one "GSXR" swingarm will be the most suitable for "SV"?
Or may be from other make and model?

Not really suitable at all.
SV back end has some features to allow rear downpipe to go through the 'arm. Shock is offset to the left. Hole at front is bigger than a normal one to let the pipe through.
gixxer arm has central shock mounts, and no space for downpipe. $hitloads of welding needed!

Bump...

Can i swap the rear shock absorber with the "GSXR 600/750" K8 one, without cut?
A guy in SVRider.com says, because it's with 90º reservoir, it's fit perfect.

Another shock question.
Can i swap the "SV" K4 rear shock with "FZR 1000" one, which is "Ohlins"?
I found one for £100.

if the mounts and pitches are the same you can use what ever you like...

but i would recommend you stick to tried and tested ones... if there was a 'no cut' gsxr shockky we would be using it.. there are a few that you can get away with just 'moving' the battery box but i dont know which ones..

Yes, I already order one K5-600 from eBay, but prefer "Ohlins" for couple of bucks more and no cut.
I'll talk with the seller for dimensions.
