Question couple of quick question (fuelling...hugger etc)

just do a tyre change and service ; want the orgs opinion.
One) does this plug look a bit lean or acceptable?Attachment 4490 (bearing in mind it was baffled and pre air filter change)

two) Attachment 4491pretty sure this is obvious ...but the tyres been rubbing right? I've not noticed it when riding but guess i'll adjust the hugger. only concern is the swingarm marks

Cheers!

Default Re: couple of quick question (fuelling...hugger etc)

Is this an injected or carb'd bike?
Is it a twin plug engine?

Being a car technician, ok mechanic, ok grease-monkey , I would say the fuelling is just a smidge, and I do mean a miniscule amount rich. Saying that, if one of the later twin-spark engines then probably richer than it should be due to the silly emission tuning they have.

Plugs should be a nice Grey/brown colour on the firing end, with a cleanish insulation around the electrode.

If the firing end was almost clean, where you could still see the metalic colour, and insulation brilliant white, that would be too lean.

Obviously black and sooty if too rich.

I always keep an eye on the exhaust too. Meaning it should be a nice grey/black deposit in the pipe, not grey/white.

With regards to your hugger, you can get that look if you ride alot in the rain, as the water "cleans" a track where the most water is sprayed from the tyre.

So not necessarily fouling at all!!

Cheers speedy, confirmed my thoughts - I can handle it being only a smidge out (it's a 1999 carb's curvy naked sv).
I did wonder if the hugger would be an issue and I've just been to get my tyres domne and showed the picture on my phone to the mechanic he laughed at me apparently it definitely is water! I just couldn't believe how caked with crap the other bits were and this track was so clean.

Anyway thanks a lot- mind to rest now
