Default Various fastener questions.

Is it ok to replace a flange nut with a standard hex nut? I'm talking about an engine mount bolt (right hand side, bottom of the frame, M12 I think). The original is chewed up and I have some standard stainless nuts from B&Q that might do the job...

Where can I buy a dozen or so push-rivets for the fairings? I broke a fair few of them removing the panels before I discovered the "knack". I've found http://www.nyfast.co.uk/Rivets__and_...rs/Push_Rivets - I think the NRS-5080 are the closest in dimensions to the OEM ones. Problem is, they only sell packs of 1000 and £30 is a bit steep for my needs. And no, I don't fancy paying £1.50-2.00 per rivet off ebay

Generator cover bolts - are they all supposed to have washers? Mine only seems to have 2 bolts with washers, the rest didn't have them.

Finally, slightly off topic - how do you clean the old gasket scraps from the covers without causing gouges in the soft ally? I'm thinking a bit of plastic to scrape them with, maybe an old credit card?

I would be happy to use a normal hex nut, but would use a nyloc with a washer.

Use a gasket scraper to scrape gaskets. Or a stanly blade with the back wrapped in tape.

Cheers YC.

Bump - anyone know where I can get some push rivets?

Not sure which bolt you're talking about, but the long engine mount bolt between the cyl on a curvey is a fine pitch M12 thread, so a "standard" nut might not do the job.
