Why does everyone seem to use TL-S clipons when changing to a GSXR front end? Do the GSXR ones not work? Will teh TL-R ones work?

The TL-S bars have a higher raise than the GSXR or TL-R clipons.
It gives a better clearance to the fairings |

Bingo. Though they're much more sloped so the hand position isn't very different, and I didn't find it as comfy either. A lot of people seem to end up with LSL Sport Match aftermarket clipons (I did) but they're spendy.

Thanks for that guys. So if I understand correctly, GSXR and TL-R clipons will work but TL-S ones just work better?
Nice avatar BTW amnesia! |

What bike do you have? If it's the curvy S, GSXR clipons don't work very well, they do fit but the throttle cables drag on the fairing (MOT fail, not to mention damaging) and the riding position is much more wristy. (especially since the GSXR forks are shorter too). I did roll around with mine for a few weeks but I couldn't have stuck with them for long.

I didn't even bother looking for GSXR clipons. Previous mods have used the TL-S clipons so I got into sheep-mode and followed suit.
...however I am a black sheep because I powder coated mine. |

I used the stock GSXR clip ons and adjusted the fairing mounts down so they clear the clip ons. Riding position is perfect.

Thanks again guys.
I think looking out for a set of TL-S clip-ons is the way to go considering I'm not small (or flexible). I don't actually have an SV at the moment, I'm looking to get one as a second bike (I have a litte Honda as my 'main' bike) to play around with and modify. I had a 'curvy', a 2001 model, from 2001 to 2004 and I enjoyed it a great deal although it was a bit small (particularly in the leg) for long trips for me but as a bike for quick blasts on the twisties - Great. However it could do with (and deserves) more sophisticated suspension, so I fancy getting one and performing the front end surgery (I'll probably want to sort the rear as well). I am looking to get all the bits and pieces together before the bike which I may leave 'til the end of the year to get best price - Of course if one comes along at the right price that may change. I'm expecting to get a 'ponty' this time though simply due to the age hence my questions in another post about which is the best year to go for (maybe earlier ones are better due to no CATs or later ones due to other mods?) I also want to be able to use the more modern front end parts and it appears tfrom 'the bible' hat 03-04 1000 or 04-05 600/750 parts are the best choice. Hoefully by planning ahead I should be able to get a decent set of parts. |

go for it.. it was the best thing i ever done to my SV, it took a good bike and made it an excellent bike. it doesn't just transform the handling it also makes it less 'bumpy' and a lot smoother over rougher roads. i used to get a lot of 'motion blur' with the standard setup.

i've just got a cheap spare front sub-frame and some 1.5mm st/steel to fab up some more brackets if i need to adjust things if cables and stuff don't clear fairings on my curvy when i put on the k1 forks, srad yokes & srad bars |
