Cool Speed Motorcycles C**k Up

Hi,

I have been a member of this site for a while now, just never posted. I used to own a 2000 sv650 from march last year, and recently sold it on Tuesday of this week. The reason i am making a thread is because when i went to try and part exchange my bike for a another a weeks ago everything was going honky doory, untill the dealership did a hpi check on my bike. They phoned me shortly after i said i would have the bike and told me the news that the sv still had finance outstanding on it. I was bemused to the fact as i paid for the bike out in full from Speed Motorcycles in Exeter just over a year ago. So basically the dealership sold me a bike with finance outstanding. The dealership i was part exchanging for the new bike with told me i should get in contact with Speed and ask them what going on, i phoned them and after a week of negotiation they decided to buy the bike back off me and explained it was a rogue sales rep they had at the time, i was inclined to say yes because i wanted rid off the thing because it was holding my new bike up. They offered me £1200 for the SV as opposed to the £1400 i was getting in part ex. I was a bit angry as it wasn't my fault and im £200 down but i really had no other choice if i wanted my new bike asap. So they came and picked the SV up on tuesday just gone and gave me they cash, i was a bit upset to see the sv go tbh because it was a fantastic bike and to go out on a bad note like that is disheartening. The moral of the story is make sure that when you buy a bike you make sure it is hpi clear. I am glad to say now that i am a happy owner of a TL1000R tho so it was worth it.

Thanks for reading!

Nathan

Frankly you sould have stuck to your guns and even demanded £200 compensation for the mis-selling

Actually unless you signed a piece of paper saying that the£1200 was the end of it, get on to Trading Standards/Citizens advice and see where you stand on this - you may still be able to get the £200 out if them.

Both the dealerships spoke to tarding standards and they said that as long as speed didn't sell the bike to me saying hpi clear that they was off the hook, but then why would they buy the bike back off me hhmmm. I would have stuck it out in court because Mission motorcycles in bletchley said that i would win hand down beacause they would favour the customer, but i really wanted the tlr asap.

Morally I'd have loved to have taken them to the cleaners, in reality I would have done exactly what you did, it's only £200 and there's nothing like a new bike to put a smile back on your face. Hope you got the new bike HPI checked though.....

I was under the impression they were obliged to HPI check bikes.

Yep new bike is hpi clear thank god. And i got it from a suzuki dealership in Bletchley milton keynes called Mission. I highly approve of mission the did everything in there power to try and resolve this problem for me. Apperantly hpi check is standard protocal for Speed but they had a dodgy salesman at the time. Thanks for the comments i will post pics of the bike when i take some good ones. S instead of an R no chance im having the ugly sister. Only joking

Yeah, the R is a nicer bike IMO. Not sure why, just personal preference.

Not heard much about Mission, but one good review is better than none.
