Topped up my oil a while ago, with 10w30 as thats what I had to hand. I didn't experience any problems with this. Tonight I topped up again with the recommended 10w40. As I didn't experience a problem with mixing the weights last time, I didn't expect to this time, but the bike has started clunking straight past neutral from first into second, so its very hard to get it into neutral at all.
Searching the forum I can only find definitive info in mixing types eg. synthetic/semi-synthetic and google searches don't bring up much about mixing multi-weight oils, only straight oils. I'm hoping the worst case scenario is an oil change, any ideas? Cheers, Jonny. |

Good morning.
It's never a good idea to mix oil weights, unless it's an emergency. Any oil is better than no oil etc. Do an oil & filter change using at least a good semi synthetic, bike specific oil, & see how your gearbox performs. If it's still clunky etc, start looking into clutch adjustment. Cheers. |

The above is good advice, however, it's worth checking that the level is correct first, with the bike upright, not on the stand it should be between the upper and lower level, if it's over-filled, letting some out may resolve the issue.

Just to add to this; I had to top up my semi synthetic 10w 40 with some of my dads fully synthetic 10w 40; both castrol oils. I then began to experiance issues finding neutral in hot traffic. Changed the oil (semi synth like always) and now its back to being normal

Thanks for the replies, I'll check I din't overfill it tomorrow. Going to book it in for a service next weekend anyway so hopefully whatever it turns out to be will be sorted then.
