Gave the bike a quick clean earlier and noticed the radiator bolt on the bottom has done a runner, meaning it can swing freely from the pivoty bit at the top. I remember having trouble getting that bolt back in as it seemed to not find a thread and just spin in its hole. Anyone know the size of that bolt so I can nip down to somewhere and get one?

Sounds like you've stripped it, measure the length you'll need to get all the way through and put a bolt and nyloc nut on it.
Try not to strip any more out in any critical places!

I'm not how I could have. My thought was perhaps the bolt wasn't long enough? When I tried to thread the bolt straight onto the bike without the Rad + rubber washer in the way it seemed to take the thread, wasn't the same when that massive rubber washer was there though. I'm HOPING it isn't stripped but time will tell...
Bolt sizes are a mystery of letters and numbers I've yet to conquer. If you've got any advice as to the size i'd be grateful ![]() |

M6, not sure of the length. If you get a 30mm, then you will have plenty to thread a nut onto.
IIRC it is not critical if this bolt is too long. Are you sure you washer is in correctly? On the curvy it needs to be pushed through the rad mount and sit on each side. Thread sizes, on the SV the MAJORITY of the bolts are "metric coarse" standard, which is the common one for general purpose fasteners. M6 = 6mm diameter. So an M6x20 would generally mean a metric coarse 6mm bolt, 20mm long.

Super! Thank you
![]() The washer is sitting on both sides of the metal rad mount, so presume is correct. Will pop down to somewhere bolty tomorrow ![]() |

To help you it's how to know what size spanner for a type of thread and if you click on the link on the top it will give you the drilling size required for tapping a thread out. Pretty simple with the SV to know 6mm bolt requires 10mm spanner, 8 for 13mm, 9 for 14mm is about all i think you need. Have a look on the site it will give you allen bolt ones too. |

Also check where it mounts into the head, theres a little cylinder that the bolt goes through, when i took my rad of yesterday to change my front spark plug i noticed that where the bolt mounts through is starting to fall apart / corrode

Well an M6 25mm fits perfectly so thanks all for the help
![]() It seems that the last nut might have been buggered. |
