Default Muffs!

Hi guys,

Saw some handlebar muffs on an Harley today and just wondered what peoples thoughts were? I thought they didnt look very attractive!

Do people use them and do they make a big difference...or is it just easier to fit some heated grips for double the price?

Cheers!

yes there ugly but they do the job well, add heated grips and your the happiest winter biker on the road, think of it like this - zero wind chill on hands, but they do feel a bit weird using them for the first few days

My other half used to have them on her GN250 and they were horrid. At speed (relative I know when we're talking GN) they folded back and applied the front brake and really made it difficult to get to the levers.

If you can get better ones these days that prevent that sort of problem then they'd be fine.

I've used oxford handlebar muffs for the past two winters, and they are currently fitted on for their third winter of use.

COmbined with heated grips, I dont need winter gloves. My hands remain warm and dry all the time. I've never had them foul the levers and push them back to the handlebar even at speeds in excess of 90 mph.

Look at tucano urbano ones, they look like they might be better than the oxford ones

I hate muffs, but have occasionally used them. I've found that they're best when used with heated grips. I bought some around 1994 when I was a learner and riding a BC125, which had heated grips fitted. I did very briefly put them on my Harley and my Ducati for a couple of days in the middle of winter, a few years ago, but decided that they looked too awful on those bikes.

I've been looking for them recently, for my Dulleville winter hack, but can't find them and might have chucked them out.

I've got them fitted to my ZX6R at the moment. Lovely.

I put a hole in the end and put a bolt through into the handlebar end weight. This stopped it folding back in the wind, which was an issue before.

The issue with heated grips is that the insides of your hands are heated but if you cover the levers, this is only the palm. Wind-chill then robs heat from the rest of the hand.

Both heated grips and bar muffs give a lovely feeling.

I bought some Oxford muffs recently but haven't fitted them to my pointy S yet, anyone got any tips or tricks to avoid brake/clutch lever problems or other issues with the clip on type bars? The bolt through the end idea seems logical to me!

It's not a difficult choice, just make sure the muffs are nice and tough, that's my advice. That way, they won't push back on you.

I always remember my ol' Dad saying to me;

"Son, just remember, no muff too tough"
