Hi guys,
I hadnt been out on the bike for about 10days, so thought id have a bimble out in the sun today. When i went to start the bike the battery was flat......the joys of the data tool. So once i had charged it i switched the alarm off, and the lights flashed but it didnt bleep? i tried it a few times, but still the same. When i rocked the bike, to set off the alarm i noticed you could just hear the audable, but you had to virtually put your ear to the seat to hear it? Any ideas? cheers |

The alarm's internal battery is flat. It will very likely recover when the bike's battery is charged.
If all is well the alarm won't flatten the battery in ten days, the battery probably wasn't fully charged when you parked up.

Thanks for the reply Sid. I charged the battery for about 3hrs then wan out on the bike for. Couple of hrs, but its still the same? Alarm is operating the indicators, but not the siren, ell it is but you can't hear it.......unless you put your ear to the tank. Do you still think its what you said, and if so is it ok to ride still?
Cheers!! |

I agree with Sid, same happened to me with the Datatool on my SV.
IMHO it'll be perfectly fine to ride, if the alarm arms and disarms OK, then it'll be fine. If you are concerned about it, put the alarm into service mode and then theres no danger of it arming etc etc whilst your riding.

i belive it can take quite a few hours of riding to recharge the alarm battery, i remember my boss mentioning it to a customer who was replacing his internal battery but i cant remember how long he said im afraid

Cheers guys. Would that be continual riding, or would my 10 mile commute over a few days have the same effect?

After ruuning the bike for plenty hours since i first asked the question, the alarm siren still wont sound, so i emailed datatool, expaining the problems. The tech guy replied today telling me that i would have to replace the lid on the alarm case, as he seemed to think that the siren has failed, and that will sort it. Thing is the alarm looks as though its been really well put in. I thought it would be under the seat, but its kind of tucked away down the left hand rear side. i took the seats off and stilll cant get to it. i think the plastic surround is going to have to come off, but im not sure how.
Any advice please guys both on how to take the surround off, and also to change the lid on the alarm case, is that a simple job? cheers |

Hi shakie,
I have recently disassembled / reassembled my SV's Datatool Alarm. The Datatool box itself on my bike is located underneath the pillion seat. There are four small screws that hold the lid of the datatool box together, you will require a torque screw head device to remove it. An allen key head will not work, don't apply too much torque or the heads will round off. When the lid comes off you will find a 9v battery which powers the device. It also gets charged off the bike's battery. Firstly plug in a new 9v battery to check the system. Don't set about removing the speaker as it is unlikely to have stopped working, given mine is 9 years old. check your keys fobs, as one of mine doesnt work properly and i had to reset it - doesnt set the alarm properly. You may have got the ownership manual for the alarm and that gives more details as to what the buttons do on the alarm. generally, if you hit the triangle it 'deactivates' the alarm - for servicing or ferry crossings etc. if you press the circle once, the indicators should flash twice, and bleep accordingly - alarm active. press it again they flash and bleep once - alarm inactive. I had the same prob as you when i got my bike to find out i was pressing the wrong buttons - reading the manual solved it! hope this helps |
