USB stick is fine to back stuff up. Not sure about system restore.

some manufacturers have setup to put it back to factory settings (dell for certain), hidden in another hard drive partition.

No system restore just rolls back certain things e.g. software drivers, but it won't erase any data on your HDD.

See if your PC came with a recovery CD as that will usually do what you are wanting i.e. restore it to the same state as the day you opened the box.

USB pen should be fine for backing stuff up as long as it's big enough.

If you want a lift with it mate I could probably nip round for a while one afternoon / evening - I'm off work for a few days after tomorrow...

Sounds like you've got all the stuff we need then, but I can always bring my laptop with me & 'obtain' a copy of Vista if needs be

If your laptop came with bluetooth then it will have had the drivers pre-loaded. It won't do any harm being there, and it's better than windows telling you it's found a new device every time you boot the thing up!

Might be better to do a clean install of Vista, that way we can just install the stuff you actually need and leave out all the bloatware that gets loaded on at the factory...
