Default .Org Electrician?

Following on from the .org plumber thread.

My little, brazilian electrician has just let me down dammit, so I need a sparky. Anyone want to pop round & quote me happy?

I've got a ground floor victorian flat. I need some new plug sockets and switches put in, but the electrics are pretty old and I may need a complete rewiring!

The current plug sockets are old and close to the ground so they may not conform to the latest safety regs.

The flat comprises:

living room,
dining room
kitchen
bathroom
bedroom
hallway
..and I'd like an external light in the garden.

I'll also want the job to be certified.

The flat is in Hither Green.Lewisham, SE London.

Anyone a sparky on here? I provide jammy dodgers and jaffa cakes as a work-related bonus!

hi kinvig. A bit far for me to undertake but i do run a small electrical business and will be able to give you a bit of advice around prices etc, what to expect on certification. I can tell you what to look out for and some local jargon they may try to use.

let us know if theres anything you want to know

Got my electrics done last week - complete re-wiring to a ground floor victorian flat conversion.

And it cost me £2080 incl VAT (Why oh why - do they never just give you the full figure but say £x + vat - the newsagent doesn't charge me 30 pence for a paper + vat.....).

He did a good job, yay!

I found him on www.mybuilder.com - I put my job details up, 13 electrician's were interested. I contacted 7 for quotes and chose the one that seemed to understand my requirements.

So hopefully you won't see as many ".org xyz required" posts.

..not sure but I dont think electrics in a house can be carried out by anyone without being qualified as the work needs to be guaranteed.

I wanted the work to be certified - as this will help with the resale value.

He was one of the cheaper quotes too. He wasn't the cheapeset (I wouldn't go with the cheapest when electricity's concerned) but he wasn't the most expensive.

Some electrician's were quoting just £2k for the labour alone (and there'd be VAT on top...).

I had 13 interested electrician's so it's not like I just went in blind and didn't shop around.
