Default White stuff in oil = uh oh?

Did an oil/filter change today. Old oil came out nice and black and quite thin. Put new oil in but always let some drain through first. However, the new oil came through but with white streaks in it. Poured some old oil back through and it was fine, no white streaks. The new oil is Halfords stuff, pretty cheap and never used it before. Could it be the oil or the bike ingressing water into the engine?

It could be some water left over in the engine so to speak, did you warm the engine before for only a short period? I assume water is denser than engine oil though (not completly certain of this) so it should sink to the bottom and be the first out

Keep an eye on your water level, and keep an eye on how the oil looks over time. I used halfords oil a couple of years back, it was fine for me.

could be coolant. but its weird that its coming out with new oil and it generally only looks like mayonnaise once it has been run...

thats what i thought aswell, which makes me think it was just something left behind from the old engine oil. I dont think the halfords oil would be contaminated.

If your worried dan, use the halfords oil as an engine flush, then go get some more oil as fresh new oil?

Engine was well warmed up beforehand as had gone to get the oil on the bike. Let it cool for about 5 mins before doing the change. Engine is running fine and not overheating though. Just worried my head gasket is gone. Will buy some more oil and see what the Halfords stuff comes out like. Looked just like mayo in the oil.

Checked coolant level and can't even see any in the reserve tank under my seat. Bike runs at correct temps though and doesn't overheat. Will top that up with 50/50 mix of distilled water and antifreeze. Checked oil today and no white bits when I use dipstick but will have to do another oil change to see what it comes out like. I guess it could be waterpump seals going. If so will be expensive and not sure if worth doing. Done about 25k miles now.

I wouldnt expect seals to have gone at just 25k, your bike isnt that old in terms of years either is it?

Incidently, i did an oil change today and didnt notice anything other than oil come out of my bike (and all over the floor momentarily )

Dan I use the Halfords oil myself and never had any trouble . When I did my first ever oil change on my own I had the same stuff . It was condensation in the engine and formed a little bit of "Emulsion" in the cap of my oil filler and had a couple of thin streaks when I swilled the engine out . The condensation sat at the higher levels of my engine , once I dumped the old oil , the condensated emulsion slipped down a bit , so swilling the engine brought a bit of it out . You tend to get it this time of the year when the temperature drops a bit .

My bike is a K3 with 29k on it
