Question Inforad Signal (or lack of)

My inforad can't revive a signal at all north of Inverness

Why would that be? The aerial is stuck under the screen so I thought it would get a good signal there

Thats because they havent invented technology up there yet.

My advice - look for moss on trees

Might be worth putting the aerial on the pillion seat and going for a run, see if it makes any difference when there is nothing between the receiver and the sky.

Do you get stronger aerials?

dont go for a 'run', if you get anything interfering with the signal (trees etc) then it will not update its location table (Almanac and Ephemeris Data)

turn it on and leave it with direct line of sight to the sky for 5-10mins, should be enough, but somtimes more, depending on how far you have traveled since it last worked.

You can`t increase a signal that isn`t there to be honest , what you can do is try and reduce the interference or anything that may block the signal , like your body . Sticking it under the pillion seat should give it a fair chance of picking something up ......... that`s if you are not carrying anyone or anything at the time .

I have one of these when they were being sold cheap by that Argos eBay store , have yet to get around to fitting it

On both of my kwaks i fit the receiver under the rear tail peice, just on top of the rear light, totaly out of sight and always pointing towards the sky, only time it can be problematic is if you have a pillion with a large backpack on, but ive had normal people on the back without it failing

I originally had it under the pillion seat but it wasn't getting a good signal so I moved it to the screen. Plus when I'm away touring I have the topbox on so that's no use. It didn't get one point recorded at all above Inverness and I have it set to mark a point every minute. Once south of Inverness (the next day), it started recording again. What is that about? Don't they have satellites up there!
