Friend of mine is having some issues with his ZX9R B1 front brakes losing pressure, he has changed everything and uprated as much as possible but is still having to put an elastic band over the brake lever each night to keep the pressure on. Any ideas??
Also does ayone have any idea about swapping the front brake callipers for something different ie doin an SV and getting a better part from a different donor bike? Any help is greatly received!! ![]() PS if anyone has a set of 6 pots that would fit for a nice price let me know!! Cheers! |

you could try swaping out the MC as somtimes they are the fault, other than that you could strip down the caliper, clean and rebuild

Get him to take one caliper off, take the pads out and gently squeeze the lever. Look for any pistons that don't come out cleanly. Repeat for other caliper. I've got a problematic caliper at the moment because one piston won't come out cleanly.

Assuming there are no leaks, (that should be obvious), then either a piston, (or more than one), is hanging on a seal and being pulled back when the bike's not in use, or the master cylinder is goosed.
The six pots are good, and the calipers are usually found to be in good condition hydraulically but the bodies physically worn where the pads contact. Some Tokico four piston calipers, (from GSXRs and SV1000s amongst others), are a straight swap, they're no better as a brake and suffer the same wear, but can be easier to find s/h. Don't buy a set of the six pots s/h without examining yourself first - there's lots of knackered ones on E-bay.
