When I first got my SV after 18months on a GN125, I thought it was an absolute rocket, and heavy and massive ... I used to struggle to get it to turn ..... 4 months later, it feels nothing like this anymore .... love it !!
BUT.... I'm (day to day commuting) using a maximum (in general) of about 6,000 revs ... and ticking it along at about 3500 revs ..... and especially off the lights (not that I'm bothered) getting left for dead by other bikers ... so questions ... 1. Are others just on faster bikers ?? 2. Are others just ridding their bikes harder ?? 3. What sort of rev range you lot use day to day ?? Bear in mind ... I am commuting through the suburbs of London before calling me a nancy boy ![]() |

Twist the throttle more and faster. Change gear at 9,000. After this the power is dropping off anyway.
I tend to ride at 7k on a commute and up to 14k on a blast. |

No, not me .....
![]() I've had some great rides home recently though....... normally 2 other bikers join me, and we ride quickly, but considerately with each other from the A3 Tolworth, down the Ewell bypass ... Thats until you get some knob on a scooter/125 cutting between us, and racing off in his white trainers and jeans ..... everytime heading in to Epsom ..... ![]() Scoobs .... not in the slightest bit worried, and have red-lined it ... maybe I'm just more relaxed than those other bikers .....or more mechanically sympathetic .... Bore that in mind..... Nancy Boy!!!!
I'm a newbie, so you might get better advice from the serious bikers, but if you feel the urge to get away from the lights faster you need to keep the revs up and the front wheel down. So, once you're feet are on the pegs keep your weight over the tank and pin the throttle 'til you hit 9000rpm, then quick-shift into second and pin the throttle again. Change up into third and lift off because you'll be hitting the national speed limit pretty soon. Remember, in the dry your SV can manage 0-60 in less than 5 seconds if you ask nicely. |

^^ the sv can do 0-60 in under 4seconds (suzuki say 3.75 (tested))
i ride prety flat out change at 9500rpm that if i can catch it befor it get to red line but thats when acelorating lol, cruze about 5000rpm change up after that if im doing a continus speed like on mway PS i went from a 50cc moped to a mt-03 660cc (heavier than the sv) Last edited by barwel1992; 29-10-09 at 02:20 PM. |
