Default Free bike lesson campaign

This was on the news yesterday morning, basically the government (I assume) are backing a campaign to get more people on bikes
(http://www.geton.co.uk/) offering a free bike lesson.

Personally I think this is great for us, general awareness of bikes on the up

It's either. I don't really care which people choose, if they've never ridden a bike (and even if they never will again) it'll give them an idea of just how vulnerable we are.

I saw that too - reckon it's a great idea!

Except they must only run the scheme somewhere up North, as there are enough learners clogging up my route to work at the moment as it is!

Goverment being keen on motorcycles is a scary thought.

Imagine if it became a bit more mainstream after one of their campaigns like this... next thing you know motorcycle tax will be getting reviewed as more and more start appearing on the road...amongst other things like compulsory safety gear etc

Sceptic

Doubt it'll ever happen though! The program was saying the risk of dieing on a bike has halved since the late nineties, which'll comfort some people but a lot will just simply prefer the ideas of cars. Warm, builtin radio, no need to concentrate or be awake etc.etc.

Can't imagine for a moment it's the government supporting biking! Wait while I catch that flying pig...Probably Motorcycle Industry Association or something like that...

I think you're right. I gather it's largely/solely funded by bike manufacturers, so sales in mind. But whoever's organising it will be more thinking benefits of motorcyclists.
Also like the new 'think' ad they've got out, with a scientific evidence twinge to it. Gives the arrogant 'I'm safe,I never speed anywhere so I need not listen to this' sorts a good intro to take notice.

Don't get me wrong the statistics are still grim, just they were polishing them up to attract new bikers
We're still 1% of all road road traffic and 20% (1/5) of all fatalities out of the 100%.
