Been after switching to a new bike for ages now but held back as i basically couldn't decide what to go for, sportsbike, tourer or dig out my peep-hole leather chaps and get a cruiser.
After checking out a billion bikes and getting a taster on track (and finding out i want to do much more track stuff) the one i've finally plumped for is the GSX-R 750. Spent the last couple of weeks finding the best deal and am all set tomorrow to go and sign for a brand spanking 0 mile Gixxer. People keep telling though that i'm nuts to buy at this time of year and why not wait until March ang get a 10 reg. Pros: This bike will be a keeper so the reg doesn't bother me that much, not much difference between the K9/K10 bike that i'm aware of? Getting a good deal as the VAT saving applies to this bike so in March i'd be paying substantially more for the same bike. If i buy the bike now, i get the bike now ![]() Cons: Rubbish weather, am i going to get much riding time in before March? Its Blue/White (i'd fancied black but the blue/white has grown on me and it the 'proper' Gixxer colour so not much of a minus point - looks lovely) Not many new Gixxer 750's left in the UK now and Suzuki are not going to have any more till March. Does anyone reckon i'm stupid for buying now? Or would you sign tomorrow? |

I did last year. Picked up a new Sprint on 28/12/08.
Got £1k off the price, and all the extras I asked for. Glad I did as the 09 Sprints sold out (aparently) soon after the weather got warmer. It was, however, the coldest I've ever been on a bike, and a complete waste of time polishing the SV for PX as the salty roads made it look very 2nd hand. Lucky the salt/roads mostly dried out for the ride home! |

I'll be wrapping the thing in cling-film for the ride home!
![]() What you say about the things selling out though is another point - come March lots of people will be after a new-un and i guess the 'stock level/price hike/no decent deals' will reflect that. Last edited by Durbs; 18-12-09 at 11:34 AM. |

If you're getting a great deal (and the bike is not due to change this year) then i would also go for it but the only saving you mention is the VAT which is not really that fantastic (<£200 if I've done my sums right). When I bought my SV (way back in 2001) I got it for £4000 when list was about £5400 IIRC, I had a 2000 model rather than 2001 (which I actually prefered - Black wheels), I also managed to get it registered in March 2001 on a Y and the dealer didn't deliver it until end of Feb so I didn't have to keep going to my garage to look at it! I don't think this will work in your case as it probably needs to be registered now to qualify for the VAT.
I've bought most of my bikes either late or early in the year due to prices being better. This doesn't work out quite as good if you are also off-loading a bike as the price will be down on that. And if you are buying from a dealer the want the advantage to them on both deals. I bought my current bike in in January this year, it was second hand, 4 months old 1200 mls. I saved about £1600 on the original price BUT the guy had put about £800 worth of extras on. Just a couple of weeks later Honda hiked the price £1000 followed by further rises during the year. One problem with this is supply seems to dry up this time of year, I'm still looking for an SV1000 but very few for sale at the moment. So in short (sorry I've gone on a bit), I don't have a problem buying a bike this time of year IF I'm getting a good deal and that should be the case on a 2009 bike, let's face it the only reason that is still on the showroom floor is because no-one bought it during the time it was intended for sale. |

I bought my SV in December, the 2nd to be precise. I still have it to this day. However, if i had the cash i would be going down to the local triumph dealer and getting a brand spanking new Tiger SE

No buy it now, you'll get a much better deal now than you will in march...

Was a bit worried when I was reading you didn't seem to have a clue even what type of bike you wanted
![]() ![]() As said the VAT is not the biggest difference but surely the deal should be good. So how much you paying? ![]() |

Ah, thats to be wrestled over tomorrow. Direct bikes quoted me £7849 and the dealer is aware of this so said we'll come to an arrangement tomorrow. 2 dealers have told me the RRP on the 750 is going to be near 9K in 2010.
Been offered 1700 for my K3 pointy as PX. so basically depends on how much i can batter that down tomorrow. ![]() |
