Default Bought a Mac! Now what?

So I've finally made the jump from PC to a second hand Mac and I was aware some things may be "different".

...but not this different.

Can someone give be the vagiest idea on how a Mac works?

For example, I use wireless internet. So I plugged in my wireless dongle to connect to the house Wifi... and nothing. No prompt, nothing.

and no internet.

What is the equivalent to the various Microsoft programs? What do you use as Word? Excel? etc.

Played with it for about three hours and got absolutely nowhere

HELP!

You pay vastly more money for inferior hardware in a pretty box

None of your normal software is available, or it is available in an unstable port over version

Lots of people think you're really cool, then you find out they're all mac owners too

You get to be Steve Jobs' bitch

That's about it...

There are no Mac equivalent word or excel programs but you can get Microsoft office for Mac.

Is your dongle Mac compatible?

There's a Mac OS version of OpenOffice too, if that's any help...

I had a Mac laptop a while back and someone gave me a book called 'The Missing Manual' which was aimed entirely at Windows users who have switched to Mac OS and are looking for the Mac way of doing the same stuff they did on their PC - it might be just what you are looking for.
