Well the old viffer has been sitting in the shed for far too long and I am starting to look for a few bits and pieces on ebay to try and get the old girl up and running again.
It's been left redundant ever since the summer of 03, when the missus suggested that I buy a new bike. The problem that I had with it before I parked it was a total loss of ignition. I bought it off a mate, and he said that he thought the ignition solenoid was on the way out, so I replaced the solenoid, and the battery before giving up on it, as these didn't cure it. Not long before it was completely dead, it wouldn't start of its own accord and needed bump starting, but then, after a while, not even that would kick it into life. In the end I could turn the ignition on, but would get no warning lights on the dash at all, and I could even pull the ignition key out without switching the ignition back to the off position. So, my question is, is the most likely suspect just the ignition switch, or would it likely be something else that caused the loss of all warning lights and ability for the starter to engauge etc. like the reg/rec, coils, or cdi unit.

The only think that can stop the starter turning is the immobiliser built into the ignition. If you short the solenoid it should turn over. HTH a little. ![]() |

Bad wire or the switch. Check the switch is getting fire up from the main fuse, go from there. Standard electrical inconveniences, trace the route current must take and check it is there at each step until you find where it isn't.

Very likely ign switch but other things may be at fault.
The problem I had with my track NC35 was a bad earth, remove the battery to frame lead, put some copperslip on the tab and bolt and retighten. Repeat for the loom to earth tab. The SV in comparison has a connector in the wiring loom that connects to the battery / earth, the NC's *have* to go through the frame. Druid

Reet, won an ignition switch on ebay tonight, but lost out on a reg/rec. looking on ebay there are a load for about £60 new, and also some for £10 to £20. Now, the cheapo ones say from hong kong, but when I looked at one of them (for £1

If battery is charged then reg-rec is not problem.

Aye, batterys probably shagged, bought it new 6 year ago and it didn't resolve problem so haven't started the bike since. Just thought I'd get a few parts to cover as many likely suspects as poss at once rather than keep going out and fannying around with it.
So, cheapo reg/rec, go for it or avoid like a pro with a dose?

Reg rec, dunno.
But if battery is knackered then there's no point trying anything else. Replace/charge and pray that and see if it works.
