In about october me and my girlfriend booked a all inclusive 4* holiday too egypt in june or july 2010 (can't remember) because it was going cheap.
On reflection i realise it maybe cheap because its the worst time of year to go! Has anyone had a summer egypt holiday? am i going to spend my whole holiday hanging onto the airconditioning unit? |

Yup. I went there a few times when i was young with the family. It reaced around 110 on a few days! This was also when Sharm el Shiek belonged to Isreal and not Egypt. I also remember that the runway used to melt in Eliat

Yes it is going to be VERY HOT!!
Drink bottled water only and if you are going out and about take a camel bag with you, I hate holding or carrying bottles with me and the camel bag keeps things a little cooler then holding your bottle of water will. Do you have an itinerary of where and what you are going to go and do whilst you are there? In all honesty break the day into three, the morning go out and about, the mid afternoon will be impossible for you to want to go and do anything and then the evening when going out again is cooler and possible for you to go and do night tours around the ruins etc. |

went to Egypt a couple of years ago in August. Bloody hot and bloomin marvellous! loved it, saw all the sights, went on a little cruise down the Nile, very very hot, very very dry, but I tell ya the worst bit is coming home to old blighty. You will step of the plane and freeze, get in your car and turn the heating up full, even in the middle of summer.
It was about the best holiday i've ever had, even though we both got the old Nile Belly (or botty) affliction. My advice - don't drink the water, and don't eat the eggs. The temps varied from about 37-45 degrees over the week. Obviously wear a hat, take lots of sun cream, but don't worry as absolutely everywhere is air conditioned. I am fair skinned and no sun worshipper but I found it to be just awesome. edit: we were based in Luxor but visited Cairo and cruised down to Aswan.

We went at the end of October.
Cairo was a bearable 30degC and it rained for the first time in 14 years! Much hotter in Luxor and Aswan...... nearer 35degC. Gonna be much hotter at the time of year you're going. |

Good advice..... and don't eat the salads either unless you know that they haven't been washed in tap water.
Take a bottle of sanitising gel and use it after each visit to the bog and after you've washed your hands on any other occasion. The four of us survived the week intact, so take care and you'll be fine ![]() |

I lived in Egypt for 3 months. I love the heat over there; i find it quite a dry heat. Much more comfy than the humid type heat of Thailand etc
+ 1 to the water. Be close by your girlfriends side when in the markets - being western she will get harassed but if your there next to her, clearly as her partner they wont- or at least they will do it less. You will love it tho. Get up early for the Valley of the Kings tho - no point after about 9 am. its way to hot. and its a stagnant heat. |

Liz & I went in July 2007, to Sharm El Sheik ( sp )
It was a bit of a shock when they opened the aeroplane door as we got belted by a blast of very hot very dry air. Took a few days to get used to it, worst bit was being hot at night and having to run the air con in our hotel room in order to be able to sleep. The hotel we stayed at gave us plenty of bottled water for free to drink, and IIRC as others have said we were advised not to drink the tap water. It was so hot one day, that I was sweating sat in the shade of an umbrella, the paving slabs around the swimming pool / sand on the beach was to hot to walk on barefoot and the glue on the spines of the books I took with me melted so all the pages fell apart. Its OK though once you get used to it, take plenty of suncream and drink plenty of fluids and you'll be fine. The hotel reps had plenty of excursions and things to do, we choose not to though as we wanted to just lie around on the beach / pool and relax. The sea is lovely and warm just like getting into a bath, Liz went snorkling alot, its very popular for diving / learning to dive as well. IIRC the excursion to the pyramids was a bit of along day.... HTH
