Default Early SV 650 X 1999 - Coded keys or not?

Sue, the GF has just been told by an arrogant old fart key cutter that "They are all coded those keys, I can't cut one".

Is that right? - Does the early SV650 X have chipped/coded keys linked to an HISS type system? Seems unlikely to me.

Stew.

Ta. What a grumpy old barstard key-cutter, obviously just didn't want her business so fobbed her off cos she's a woman and would'n't know any better. Think I'll go in meself and ask out of interest and see what happens.

Cheers mate.

if you have any difficulties, just get a blank yourself and provide it , I know JMA do a Suzuki blank and you'll probably find a few on Ebay for a few quid.

Cheers Mark.

Our works van is a Fiat Scudo with a coded key and we had one cut. The key cutter had some fancy device that scanned the key and the info was duplicated onto the other key.

If you've got the lock number, there's a guy in Lincoln can do quick & cheap keys. Lincoln Security 01522 532038. If no number, they'll need a key to copy from.
Before you send Sue on her way rejoicing, check that the new key(s) fit ALL 3 locks - my original attempt didn't fit the filler cap so I might have been a couple of hours from home before I discovered that! Which is why I went to the above.

Just a slight hijack

I have the same bike, and have only 1 key and no numbers. What are my options if i want another key as a spare? I assumed id have to buy a whole new lock set?

another key cut from yours (while you wait obviously) will cost you about £10 or a little less and about £5 if you provide the blank, a new lockset is hidiously expensive if you go OEM, but can be picked up from Ebay for around £50.

If all you need is the spare key, just get one cut.

Cheers Mark.

JMA: SUZU-12D.P
SILCA: SZ14RAP

these seem correct looking, but webpages with them never quote the curvy years. anyone used them?
