Got the bike out for the daily commute and thought, strewth this is heavy today. Look down and oh, no air in the back tyre! No probs, thinks I, I have a compressor and a puncture repair kit (Rema Rep&Air)...
Insert plug and its splits off the insertion tool. Hmmm. Insert second plug - it does the same. Ah, no more plugs now, so flip the plugs round and have another go, but end up with them both cut in half. Whoops - time to phone the wife and get the cage out ![]() So, does anyone know off hand the shelf-life expectancy of a repair plug? Mine were around the 8 year old mark ![]() and if you have a repair kit - it may be worth making sure you don't leave it lying around too long before replacing the plugs / bungs / strings you carry round in it.

... if you want the guy that you take it to to repair it to hate you forever...
There is a certain knack to the Rep and Air plugs that I discovered I didnt have the other week when I found I had a puncture. So now have some Sticky String in my kit, cos I know how to use that ![]()

Yes, my mechanic certainly hates me for using slime. So much so that he laughed all the way to the parts shelf to get me a string kit. I would have been rude to him, but he's MOTing it next week and I'd rather he liked me (even just a little bit)

If anybody ever brings me a slime filled tyre to change without telling me first again I am going to shred the tyre and feed it to them

Ah thank the Lord! I'm not the only one!
I had the exact same trouble with my brand new repituable puncture repair kit! It left me reeling especially after people recommending having one! Bike still currently parked up awaiting repair or new tyre! Whilst on the subject what are people views on repaired tyres? (in this case small screw) and what is and where can I get a string kit for future? Third puncture in 5 months! Ps sorry for hijacking the thread PJ Last edited by P-J; 25-03-10 at 02:48 PM. |

Well, sticky string is now fitted and the tyre hasn't dropped any pressure over the last hour. We'll see what's what in the morning. Hopefully it'll look a lot less like the cat has expertly laid one in the tread
![]() @P-J Last time I plugged a tyre was about a month after it had been fitted, and it stayed plugged till the tread wore out many thousand miles later. That was a Rep&Air, the string I used this time is like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tubeless-Tyre-...item563aa9746b
