Hi,

How would I go about connecting my nuvi satnav to my bike?

I have connected my nuvi 660 on my Sprint ST as follows:-

Telferizer custom ball mount with RAM arm & Garmin Bracket

Have got it wired in to my Autocom and 12v power supply - works a treat.

If it rains - I cover it with a small clear freezer bag

I was using a Givi satnav bag that has velcro straps and a clear window so you can use the satnav even in the rain - just attaches to the bars. I just had a flying lead for the power and autocom under the tank so I could quickly connect them both.

I've now gone for a Zumo 600 which is waterproof so the bag is surplace to requirements if you are interested? Only been used a handful of times as I decided I wanted the zumo not long after buying my Nuvi 760.

Throw into a tankbag and lock the screen; put into a ziploc bag if its raining. Run headphones into the lid and listen for directions; I don't want to be watching the screen anyway.

Tank bag is a good place for it.

I take it you mean how would it be powered? In which case as the average satnav comes with a charger lead that has a cigar lighter plug on it you have two choices:

1. Fit a lighter socket to your bike.

2. Cut off the plug off the wires and, with a suitable fuse in the positive line as close the battery as possible, fit them to the battery. It doesn't need to be about switched - you won't be leaving it on the bike when it's not running, but you could anyway, the battery won't notice the load and would last for ages with the satnav still running.

Just check the voltage before you do this - My Garmin runs off 5v, and the plug contains a 12v/5v voltage reducer so I went with option 1 above.

I use tomtom of my old pda. It goes under the seat simply to alert me of speed camera locations. It is plugged into my autocom

Powered off a cig lighter socket wired through a relay off the ignition. into this I have a twin USB charging adapter to power the PDA and bluetooth GPS module. Socket is also useful for airbed pump if tenting it, charging radio/phone etc.

Using GPS to tell me where to go. No way I might as well have the wife pillion telling me what to do
