Well, today my mum has decided she is getting one of the dogs put down. He is the biggest character in the house. Always grumbling, thinks he is the boss and generally giving everyone cheek - typical cocker spaniel.
Unfortunately, he is old and they suspect that he is now riddled with cancer after removing what turned out to be an extremely aggressive form of skin cancer from his mouth. He isn't in pain but his back legs keep going from underneath him and he is peeing everywhere. Thing is, mum works in the vets. She wanted me to take him this afternoon in my dads 4x4 but I can't. I feel bad for saying no but I can't. Jake was my dog. We have had him since I was about 7. I picked him. I picked his name. This wee dog is a right royal pain in the ass, but god, I am totally gutted that he is going. Totally. Just had to share. Thanks guys. |

We had a Spaniel along the same lines a good 7-8 years ago now.
She got to around 16-17years old and after 2 or 3 strokes she also had a cancerous lump on one of her legs. Me my mum and dad where so sad when she got put down but you have to remember the good times. Hope your ok |

Aww Nic
![]() I kinda know how you feel, I had to make this decision for one of my previous pets but I know with dogs they take up so much of your life that the impact is gonna be so much more. Dont feel bad for not being able to take Jake, awww I have tears now LOL .... your Mum is making the right decision, let him sleep while he has experienced no pain. That is what I would want for Samson when the time come. Love you gal be strong xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx You got my number if you need to talk, I promise I will take it to work fully charged tonight. I am on until 3am so please talk to me chick.

oh MBK, that's really sad. Pets do become part of the family.
Taking our dog to the vet for his final journey was so tough. When the vet called her name, i wouldn't let go of her! But I know that Sadie (our dog) is now bounding around in doggy heaven and Jake can go join her. Really feel for you. Big Hug x x x x |

Mrs your no gonna like me saying this but as he's your dog you should take him-as painful as it is you'll end up taking comfort from the fact that it was you who held him and let him go-i've been there in the past and will be there again in the future-its your last obligation as the owner- it helped me get over the loss knowing that there was no pain any longer.

Awful day for you MBK. I agree with husky though, you will regret not being there to say the final goodbyes. Hard though it is, it's only right that you should be there when he goes as you were when he arrived (at your house) right through his little life. Bite your lip and do it hun, hugs being sent your way, really feel for you

Hi MBK,
Really sorry to hear your news. They are part of the family, and it isn't easy when this happens. Best wishes, Bri
