haha title of this thread reminded me of a comedian recently saying how odd it was you scots called it a fish supper where the rest of us just call it fish and chips.

And if you just wanted 2 portions of chips would you have to order a "supper supper"?

bugger I past that yesterday. Should have got some for my tea!

One sausage and chips - sausage supper
Two sausage and chips - double sausage supper
One sausage, no chips - single sausage

I thought a fish supper was two pieces of fish with chips (was always what you got on Western Road)? The idea being you have a fish each and share the chips walking home with your 'burd'. I know I'm not Scottish but I had this was explained to me by a friend from Clydebank and confirmed by several other Scots of my acquaintance.

Your friends were talking claptrap! That's quite common in folk from Clydebank. A supper is usually 2 pieces of fish, but "supper" has nothing to do with 2 pieces of fish and everything to do with the time of day that you would normally eat it. The only reason for two pieces of fish is because Scottish fish and chip shops use better quality Haddock, which generally comes in smaller fillets than the bloody awful giant pieces of oily Cod you get by default down in England, you need to ask if you want Haddock down here. A single fish is usually also 2 pieces of Haddock, or a single double fish is 4 pieces.
