Default JHS Cams, anyone have any experience?

I had a set of these kinda fall in my lap and have no knowledge of what they are all about. Anyone have any experience with them?

I am currently having my first Gen SV650 built pretty stout (think 90+hp) and am unsure if these will be used. If I decide NOT to use them, any idea what they are worth in used but good condition?

thanks so much

tim

I have some. The stage 2 ones that are OK with stock valve springs.
Run them in an otherwise stock engine for many thousands of miles, no issues with them. Check the valve clearances every other oil change for safety and have not had any excess wear.

I paid around £100 for mine.

They make the engine feel a lot peppier than stock one without a noticeable penalty in bottom end.

what are you having done at it to get to 90bhp?

thanks for the info...

Lets see...

2mm overbore
Custom head work
39mm flatslides
carillo rods
lightnened and balanced crank
cams
lightened flywheel (total loss)
fiberglass tank with sealed ram air system

there is a host of other things that are being done with gasket thickness and timing etc but thats about the jist of it.

Next year we'll get nasty on the weight reduction and if budget allows some fancy shmancy wheels

Ker ching!

Guy on svrider is making a cool lightened starter clutch, cheaper than half a carb
Who is doing work?

I'd be interested to note if you actually get any faster with the lighter wheels

I keep looking for a set of used flats, can't justify the new price. Let me know if you get bored of them

If I drop 2k in wheels and DONT notice a change that makes me faster I'll likely jump off a clff... haha, we'll see how this season goes.

Ben Probst is doing MOST of the work, Spears is handling some of the machine work but Ben is doing the build. He's build a handful of bikes similarly that make consistant 90-93 HP and so far have shown remarkable reliability (2-3 race seasons with no major failures)

I'm thinking about dropping the starter next year but rollers are a pain in the ass...

I got my flats at cost through a sponsor... still hurt the pocketbook. If the 39's dont cut the mustard (we are thinking velocity vs volume) I'll likely be looking at upgrading to 41mm... I'll hit ya up if thats happens

The Aprilia WSB team I notice use a handheld starter, I'd be tempted to have something similar if I was losing the starter.

I think with 2mm over pistons you will get good enough/fast enough gas flow at low revs that the 41s will work well. Let us know how it works out
What are they over there at retail price about USD950?

Should be a very cool bike, I wouldn't mind knowing what Ben does different to everyone else to get that reliability.

i'm sure ALOT of people would like to know I asked once and he basically told me its just a process of trial and error over the years to find the right balance of HP/Torque etc and finding a formula that works... he's a younger kid (early 20's) but his family has been building and racing bikes for almost 30 years...

We had GREAT results with the 39's last season with just the overbore G2 cam swap and head work... we detuned it and were in the mid 80's trying to save the bottom end... that lasted all of 2 weekends and we spun a bearing (I should say "I" as I was the one riding it... lol)

once i get it all put together and get some tuning done on it I'll post up some numbers, dyno's are always kinda eh when it comes to numbers but we'll at least have something to talk about!

yeah I think youre about right on the retail #'s

My ar$e dyno says the JHS cams are hotter than 2gen cams.
