Default Choices choices - Which bike to buy?

Another new bike thread.

Ok, so my car is finally sold and I've a lump of cash in the shape of a deposit burning a hole in my pocket.

Been on the SV for a little over a year, t'was my first bike and now I'm looking for something a little bigger, around the £4-5k.

I'm gonna be using it for a bit of everything, incl. commuting (Only about 4-5 miles a day) and a bit of touring. But as a young bloke I don't need anything too practical just yet (VFR's etc.)

Top of the list at the moment:

K5 GSX-R750
2006/7 Daytona 675

I like the Daytona a lot but it's gonna be about a grand more and i'm not sure its worth it. I've noticed there's some cheap 2003ish R1's and they're in the same insurance bracket as the other two but I suspect that might be a bit too mental just yet.

Any thoughts, suggestions, recomendations?

...and no I don't want to keep my current bike for another year. I know I probably haven't got everything out of my SV and I love it dearly but i'm young, stupid and impulsive so there

I'd get this if I had the cash. Powerful twin.

Nice, but 1000CC with a million and one custom parts.

I suspect redicularse insurance costs.

Maybe not that exact bike, but even the standard ones are kitted out nicely.

Should never just assume insurance goes on engine size. I did a few speculative quotes, and the SP2 was cheaper to insurance than a GSX-R750.

750 GSX-R every time, it may even stretch to a K6/7 with that budget, I find mine great on track and for touring, pics available on request

Not really if you've got a years+ riding under your belt, as with all bikes, it only goes as quick as your right hand tells it to! You'll find its not the snarling beastie you imagine (unless you want it to be).

I'd go the GSX-R 750 though, lovely bikes. Test ride the three options, i really liked the Daytona but found it just too uncomfy for daily use when i actually had a go.

Deposit down on a 2005 GSXR750, 5000 miles, lovely condition, £4K from a dealer.

Now i've gotta wait a bloody week to get my hands on the thing.

Feck.

IMO one that takes YOUR fancy and not what others would like to have. Go and have a sit on ones that you like, test em, and find the one that suits the most.
