Unhappy Organising my Training - Need Help

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone could help.

I plan on taking my theory, mod 1 and 2 in the next few weeks but want to get some proper training in before that time. Just asking about the best way to do it. How much training should I get, 3 sessions enough? How long should each session be? How much should they cost?

Any other advice based on training would be very much appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Don't know if it will help but I e-mailed a local bike traning and CBT centre about the subject and this is what I got:

Hi Dan we do full licence test but we do not book your theory test for you have you done your CBT as that is where we start of then wed can do the module 1 training this is £75 including test fee for 2 hour training then I can do your Module 2 training and I can run this coures in Exeter its a 3day course with your test on the 3rd day and this £399 including test fee if you would like to talk about this over the phone you can call me on...

Dunno if it helps

Many schools offer some sort of observed ride to determine how much training you may need. I would trust their word over the experiences of strangers on a forum.

Hi Triv, just saw your PM. Have you got any riding experience yet? If you have and you are perfectly comfortable on a bike, handling, slow control, smooth gear changes etc then you will be fine doing your CBT, a conversion day to a 500cc followed by your module one the next day and if you pass, you could go on to your Module two with maybe just one days extra training.

If you have no experience as yet, take the extra time and additional days training. I only just passed my module 1 today. The test itself was textbook and I felt great doing it, but in the practise at the centre this morning, I was awful and it's because today is my fourth day riding a bike and I only got in an hour of slow control on the 500 yesterday. I'd never ridden a big bike before, so I could very easily have failed today as some of the others did.

Also, if you've not ridden before, and pass your Module 1, get another full day in before your Module 2 or have it booked for the afternoon so that you give yourself more time to really get used to the 500 on the road.

So...get your CBT and Theory done, then you can book in for your Module 1 training and test. Don't bother booking your Module 2 until you pass Module 1 as lots of people are being failed at the moment as the DSA has just clamped down on lenient examiners.

I know you probably want to rush through it and get it done, but I would honestly say that the more time you give yourself, the better you will do as you'll be putting much less pressure on yourself.

Costs sound about right, but to be honest, when you've done your CBT and Mod 1, you'll have racked up some good road riding time, so 3 days Mod 2 training with a test on the last day sounds a little excessive if you are already a road user. For example, I passed my CBT last Thursday and my Mod 1 today, I've covered over 200 road miles now and from the outset, they said my observations, road awareness, hazard perception and rad positioning are all there already, so on the day of my Mod 2 test, I'm having 1 full day training to just finish off getting my gear changes smooth as a babies bottom and then straight into my test day.

Whatever you do though, don't be in too much of a hurry. One of the lads that passed his Mod 1 today has been told he can't take his Mod 2 without another 2-3 days on the road training as he's a cocky so and so and doesn't listen, wanting to rush through and get out on his 2003 ZX6R that will probably be the death of him if he doesn't start using his brain.

Do it in your own time and make sure you're happy with the instructors you have.

More than anything....GOOD LUCK! I've absolutely loved every minute of it and I can all but guarantee you will too!!!

I've done my CBT, did it just under a year ago. I'm comfortable on a bike (relatively) but I have little experience with gears (bar a few goes on my bro's bike). I've covered around 3,200km on my scooter but a lot less on a geared bike. I'll get my theory booked asap and then sort out my mod 1 and 2 for the easter hols.

How quick will I be able to book my theory? Could I book it for before the end of the week (saturday?) or is that waaaaay too optimistic?

Thanks for your advice Grunty, helped loads

Get on the DVLA website and go through the booking process until you get to the choice of venue. Pick a few that you can easily get to and one at a time, click on them to see what dates they had available. If you're lucky, like me, you'll get a cancellation. I booked mine online last Monday at 4pm and my test was Tuesday at 3pm...lol.

As you're comfortable on a bike, that's half the battle won. You won't need as much as total beginners like me.

When i did my DAS coupla years ago was a they loaned me a 125 whenever one was free (like you i already had CBT) i had use of it for a few hours a day which gave me valuable experiance before jumping on the 500's (also got to know the test route )

they also gave me the option of following the instructors behind when they were teaching others and generally evesdrop other lessons for tips etc

was with 5 star training if that helps, they were a good laugh, have a relaxed approach to a point and have a high pass rate

@ Amplimator

They sound awesome but I'm in East Devon so it would be a bit of a trek which I unfortunately cannot do.

Can anyone recommend any good training/test bodies in the exeter area? Would be a great help.

Thanks for all your help so far guys!
