Default Steam powered SV - Radiator crack

Out on the bike t'other day car in front threw a stone at me. Saw it comming, cringed, loud bang. Stopped and checked for damage and couldn't see anything.

Got home and there way a bit of steam from the front, it was raining so could have been due to that.

Dry today & on way home stopped at some lights and was engulfed in a steamy cloud. There is a very small leak in the rad just near the bottom next to a dent where this rock must have hit.

Has anybody used rad weld to fix a leaky bike rad? Holts site mentions not to use on Rover 825 due to the small capillaries used, thought it was only active in contact with air

Yeah I've used it twice on the same radiator with brilliant results (second time I'd put a wheel through it). However a lot of people have moaned at me that it'll wreck the engine etc etc (same capillaries reasoning). Worth double checking with someone clever ...but I would.

Is the hole in the header tank or one ( or more ) of the tubes?

Better to try soldering out the hole

My dads companies was a place in Preston doing repairs to rads and heat exchangers, but it is a damm long time since I replaced a core etc. where it was only a single tube, we would remove the tanks and solder out the ends of the tube. But I guess this is not practical on an SV rad.

Get some good strong sulphuric acid to clean round the hole (wear gloves/goggles) before applying a blob of plumbers solder.

All fixed Blow torch and a bit of solder. All back together just in time for it to start percipitating down.
