Default Restriction - cost and type?

hi all, now i know theres been many posts about restricting sv's on here but my recent enquiry to a local garage has confused me.

i finally got myself an sv 650 sk6 and all it needs before i can ride it is restricting. now reading the topics on here i thought it would be a simple ecu change and not the expensive. But a visit to my nearest suzuki dealer i was told it would be £560 and i was in shock. Anyway i went to the motorcycle garage just round the corner and i was told by him that the best way of restricting them is actually mechanically by fitting a restrictor kit to the exhaust etc and that this was going to cost me £170 but he said most of that cost was for paperwork. He also said that changing the ECU wasnt the most reliable method.

i hope someone could point me in the right direction as what is best.
thanks

I only paid bout 250 for the ECU restrictor m8, from a main dealer aswell.

Have a look in the for sale section m8, may get one in there for bout £ 60.

I had a restricted by ECU K4. I'm not surprised that a dealer wanted a lot of money for one - so just get it second hand for about £50. But also they are free on new bikes

I would strongly disagree that ECU method was not the most reliable - sounds like that garage just wanted the business.

The mechanical restrictors sounds to me more like it is fighting against the bike, i.e. the ECU delivers so much power then the restrictors waste it, rather than the ECU delivering the correct power in the first place.

Lets put it another way, Suzuki restrict it by a different ECU, it would be far cheaper for them to do it via washers if it was better.

The garage was trying to sell you the kit made by FI international (the shower of shoites they are, wouldn't p*ss on them if they were on fire etc etc). These make fuel injected bikes run rich.

Find a secondhand 33bhp ECU. Part numbers you want are on here somewhere.

That's what I was thinking, that the bike delivers the fuel then the restricters restrict the air to burn it, but then I thought they couldn't have designed such a shoite system
