Default How do you know if your bike needs dynoing?

Hi,

I have a ZX6 and the guy that had it before me had a map that had +64% at 1/4 throttle so i changed it for the appropriate std mapping but to me it runs great so how do I know if it needs dynoing?

Surely it doesn't if you think it runs great? All that matters is that you are happy with it.

It's sometimes not possible to tell if it's running badly though, someone more mechanical minded will be along soon I'm sure, but I think if it's running rich it's not a massive problem (waste of fuel, maybe) but if it's running lean you risk damaging the engine.

I don't know of a way to tell if it's running lean (a vague memory says pinking but that might only apply to car engines?) but you can get a dyno run fairly cheaply to see what state it's in. Setting it up is what takes the time (and therefore the money).

You wont be able to tell if there is a requirement until you get an air fuel run done on a dyno. It may feel great, but generally most bikes could be made to run better or alot better after getting the fueling adjusted, even if they are totally stock!
