Default Yamaha YZF R6 2000 Rev Limit

hey guys

need your help with somthing, i have a mate that has a YZF R6 2000. that has a rev limiter on it. it will only rev up to around 16k - 16.5k. i now that the rev limiter is in the cdi/ECU somewere.

now i know with the SV that you can buy a little box off ebay that you plug in and it removes it, or you can just remove some wires witch do the same job.

the question i have for you is. dose anyone know if you can do this to a YZF R6. if so how do you do it. or what do you have to buy to do it

iv spent around 4 hours searching the net and a r6 forum and can not find anything

cheers nicky s

Powercommander? ?

You really don't want to be raising the rev limiter. Are you not thinking of the TRE mod?

Nowt as long as you don't mind getting a cylinder head in your fuel tank.

There's lots to do when you blow your engine Is he racing? Or just willy waving?

TRE mod : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nikko-De-Restr...#ht_2104wt_941

(I have no idea how credible that mod is on that bike)

There was a really really interesting thread on rev limiters recently relating to daytona 675's. i think embee was the man with the very knowledgeable post about why you can't just go higher willy nilly. I'll have a look for it.

there it is

he only wants to do it so he has more revs he is not gonig to be redlining it in each gear all the time.

But the race bike will be at the correct temperature, with fresh oil and lots of tlc. Hence why I suggested in that thread it can be done, and that in this case that it shouldn't.

Is it just that the needle doesn't go in to the red? Frickin' change the surround if that's the case

i see your point. nay its not because it dose not go into the read bit its becuase it dose rev up yes it revs fast but it stops at 16.5k and sounds horrible clocks say it go up to 18 why build a bike the limit it anyway ??? if it is bad for it to rev that hig why make it so it can ?

looking at that item on ebay it says that it only changed the limit in 2 gears witch is the same idea as the sv is there anywaqy to make it so it can redline in each gear ?
