hi all, we finally narrowed down my mates daytona starting problems to a faulty fuel pump. 80 quid all sorted by triumph dealer in stoke.thanks to all the help and advice from you guys i was able to tell the dealer all the things we had done so keeping the cost and time waiting down! now it is playing silly b*ggers again! this time the clock lights stay on even without the key, draining the battery and the headlamp wont come on. question is..is this just some kind of warning to tell you there is a bulb blown or something more sinister.

thanks! forgot to add apart from drained battery bike runs fine no other symptoms except dash backlights on without key in and no headlamps. going up there tonight to have a look at the bulbs and see if one or both have blown. flipping thing is the bane of my life and its not even my bike!

When I took the front of my old T595 apart to change a blown instrument bulb I had a similar thing (IFIRC). Usualy one plug fits one connector so you can't connect things wrongly. However on the Triumph this was not the case and I'd got two of the plugs the wrong way round. Made all sorts of weird things happen.
Another thing to check is the Headlamp switch. Mine did a weird thing where you would get the instrument lights on, but no headlight or tail light and the brake lights still worked. If you rocked the switch gently it would all sudenly work! |

First place I'd look.
Typically, the clock lights are on the same circuit as the pilot and tail lights. The ignition switch has connections from the pilot and tail lights, which are used in the 'park' position. I don't know the wiring of that bike specifically, but it's certainly possible that a problem in the switch could give the trouble described.
