I dont get 400's, I dont understand why anybody would want one, unless they were seriously short in leg and wanted a little bike in terms of physical size
You'll be looking at older bikes, which may turn into money pits... I mean I dont understand why people pay silly money for 10 - 15 year old NC35's for example. But hey if you want one, then why not... Personally I'd rather have something like an RGV or RS250 something small light and nimble, even with the possibility of frequent top end rebuilds. Or why not just go whole hog and get a SS600 instead...

+1 get a wreck of a rgv and sort it.
My mate has got a gixxer resto starting and it took him months to get a english workshop manual. the gixers have cdi probs (i think) and parts are hard to find

Personally I'd avoid the GSXR4, it is the worst of the 400's. The order I'd go for them in is NC35, NC30, FZR 3TJ, ZXR, FZR, NC24, GSXR.
As for 'why' the 400's, they are fun! For example a *stock* NC35 will annoy the hell out of R1's (and mini-twins) etc round a track. ![]() Druid

Fookin money pits.
If you fancy that buy the best one you can afford. Save your money for pistons and oil. Why the GSXR400? Get a 750, they're cheap and a blast to ride. You just missed out on jamessunhills one.

I have areal soft spot for the sports 400s - but definitely get a recent model Honda. The older ones are dated in terms of spec, and knowing people who own/have owned most of them over the years, the Hondas seem to be a better bet on a number of counts. |

Go ZXR!
Cheap, Lots of parts and as I think you are local to leicestershire type area I've got lots of parts I could help you with if you buy one that needs a bit of work. I love my two ZXR400 race bikes to bits, Tons of character an absoloubt hoot to ride and as it stands at the minute, I'm actually thinking about selling my SV to get a road going one. |
