Default How long is a piece of string?

Hi, have had a rattle/slapping! from front top of engine for a few months now.
Only there at idle but goes away when revs build up.
Have read lots of posts about this, so changed oil for starters.
No difference so assuming its cam chain tensioners.
I have no mechanical ability, and am going to take it to nearest Suzuki dealership.(Cupar, Fife )
Anyone have an idea how much it will cost for them to have a look first, and how much I am looking at to get it repaired?
Thanks.
Jim.
Its a 2000 reg curvy. 22000 miles

I'd guess at about 2-3hrs labour assuming it's just the front one. Rear is harder to get to. If it needs replacing then use a K3 one. New tensioner is about 70 quid including cap, gasket and VAT.

Well if you don't get it sorted fairly soon, the bill is going to be much bigger

So long as the tensioner isn't knackered, its just going to need a service. Did it have a proper one at 15,000 miles?

Valve clearances need checking at this milage too

Dont know if it was serviced at 15k, could it just be the valve clearances?

Do you have to go to Suzuki? They will be the most expensive. Ask around, im sure you can find a local motorcycle mechanic that will do it much cheaper

You won't really be able to get that good an estimate from here. My two local-ish Suzuki garages have vastly differring rates. For my 4k service last year, one wanted £320 and the other wanted £145....

No, valve clearances wouldn't do that, although a combination of valve clearances, out of sync carbs and slightly loose camchains might.

Find an independant garage, don't go to a dealership, you'll get ripped off and they don't take the care that a good independant would

There must be one in your area, check yell.com or find out from local bikers. They tend to know
