Default DECT cordless phones

Can you have more than one set of DECT cordless phones in the house, belonging to two different base units on two different phone lines, without getting interference between the two sets?

And what if both sets are the same make and model?

I guess you must be able to or people living in flats and terraces would be having trouble with their neighbours phones.

Do they use a random frequency set at the time of manufacture, or do they search for a free frequency when you switch them on or something?

Also, can you be sure that the handset won't start communicating with the wrong base station and start making expensive phone calls on the wrong telephone line?

Thanks
