Default Ohlins fork spring spacer

Afternoon Guys,

Bought myself a set of Ohlins linear fork springs for my Curvy, they're .85 for my weight of about 13.5 stone kitted.

The forks springs are obviously shorter than the standard ones (260mm) which means I'll be needing a spacer, I'm just wondering if anyone out there of similar weight has fitted a set of these springs before and could possibly give me an idea of the size of the spacer they used and the material.

Figured i'd at least ask before going down the trial and error route in order to get the sag right.

Cheers

Andy

could you not get some pointy preload adjusters ? then measure the spacer so spring and spacer are same length as standard spring and spacer then take 2cm off the spacer, to alow for the preload adjuster

Ah thats a fair idea, I guess if I'm going to be upping the springs then some preload adjusters wouldnt go a-miss.

Only thing is that I believe the pointy forks are just a bit too different (different interal diameter) and the adjusters wont fit into the curvy forks....I can be told otherwise however.

Cheers for the idea mate, I can probably make my own out of a set of curvy top caps as it stands anyway, one of the virtues of being a student of engineering.....

Yes 2002 curvy's have got the adjusters.

When I did my fork springs I used plastic waste pipe bought from Sainsbury Homebase as the spacer IIRC

Apologies for being a newbie with little knowledge suspension. I've just upgraded with the 0.85 linears and 15w oil but haven't changed the spacer as i wasn't aware the spacer needed changing until i'd got most of the way through changing them.

I've been riding them a little without changing them but i'm getting a clunk on some potholes.

Whats the best solution for this, could i buy something to sort it preload adjusters the correct spancers etc?

On some springs spacer will be fine

Measure free length of both

Cheers for the replies guys,

I'll be fitting my springs today, going to buy some plastic piping from B and Q, then as YC says, measure the length of both sets of springs and make a spacer to equal them out if needed.

Different size spacers are going to give different preloads (essentially the same as getting preload adjusters but with more hassle) so the ride height at the front can be altered if needed.

Wahwah, if you dont mind me asking what weight are you? How does the bike feel with 15w oil? I'm going to try 10w to begin with as it would seem I'm comparibly lighter than most of the guys talking about linear springs who are pushing 15-20 oils, so it'd be good to get a comparison of different oils with similar springs.

Oil controls rebound speed, you don't want it to be too fast otherwise you keep same problem as stock
