Default Any bodyshop/auto paint experts on here?

I'm looking for advice on rust treatment. I guess most body shops simply remove and replace panels in a lot of cases, but I have some minor rust patches on my Transit that I need to sort.

I'm happy spraying, got the gear and done plenty of bike fairings but I want to make sure that I dont see rust bubbles appear within 6 weeks of me getting it shiny.

Its a Transit in Ford Diamond White. (arent they all?)

Any serious advice welcome.

cheers.

The rust treatment around these days is very good, it chemically changes solid rusty panels to stabilise it then all you do is primer and paint.

Only one effective treatment, replace the panel.

not an option for the rust I need to deal with, it would be an entire bodywork set.

Rub it down to bare metal, skim some body filler over and rub down, then spray with acid etch primer. Then spray with high build primer and rub down again with fine wet and dry (working through the grades to about 1200), then top coat. You need to give the coats of each paint a day to cure, and use good quality paint from a paint shop, not halfords shizzle, and don't t-cut or polish the paint for at least a month.

It is unlikely that you will keep the rust at bay for long though.

+1, no good cleaning up and and filling over it. once it rusts it wont stop unless treated. I've got an anti rust paste in the garage, you dig out the rust smother this stuff on and once cured you fill over it. Cant remember what its called but it readily available in h*lfrauds

its like chemical metal
