Engine rebuild-finally!-help & advice appreciated

Hi there! - well i got round to cleaning out my fathers garage ready for the job at hand which is doing exactly what richie did to rebuild the gearbox, i suspect the same thing happened to my bike! - i should have done this years ago but job/money issues put it on the back burner - pity the bike runs like a wee sweetie - pity i cant get it past 2nd gear! - wish me luck! - p.s. seeing how others in here did the same i would appreciate all the advice and on tap help i can get with the work in progress!

(yes remember the screw with the reverse thread! & rotor being a nightmare)

oh another thing... the bike had been laid up for over a year with petrol in the tank, with a new battery it started up first time so all of those threads about fuel 'going off' don't ring true to me now.

I take it you couldn`t get another engine then ? Although to be honest if it was me I would fix what I had, keeps the numbers right too.

Petrol does go off. I was told it used to last a lot longer than modern fuels but because of the additives in it, the shelf life is around 6 months now, but i`m not sure if thats accurate. What I do know is an engine may start on old fuel and rev up, but be gutless when you try to use it. I always store my classic car with the tank almost empty over the winter and add fresh fuel when I want to use it again, although i should probably fill it up to stop corrosion and use a fuel stabiliser.
